The Photovolt 577-A or 577-AS can be used with a "Y" search unit and a green filter to measure potato fry color. There have been a number of articles written about the use the 577 to assess potato fry color which indicates the quality of the potato for frying. The USDA has a potato fry color chart that a number of customers have correlated to readings from the 577 colorimeter . The readings from the 577 are consistent and objective compared to a person trying to match the potato fry color against the USDA chart.
